I see they’ve upgraded the vis-o-screen so it can read Sam’s thoughts now. We’ll be able to know whenever Sam’s hungry now by the appearance of a pastrami sandwich on the screen.

Really like the depiction of Tracy and Sam today. Tracy’s looking young and vibrant in panel one. And Avenger, Sam’s sporting four freckles on his face again! I’m thinking it’s not a mistake on Pleger’s part, that Sam just happened to grow a fourth freckle within the past week.

The image of Yeti on the monitor is an exact “graphic quotation” from the optional panel in the first row of https://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2020/11/29. I recognized Joe Staton’s inking right away.

And yeti, might just be getting set up by the real killer…..

So nice to have our detective characters … actually not be fools. Too many lazy writers just don’t let their characters be competent until the third act.

Shelley Pleger is really great as Dick Tracy artist. Today strip is the perfection!

OK. I think I’ve discovered a plot hole here. (Alert the media!! Stop the presses! Send a priority notification to avenger09!)

Re-reading the strips Neil linked us to above, we can see that Tracy and Sam really never did know who they were dealing with in the last “Yeti” story. They were trying to solve the mystery of the poison in the perfume shop, and various clues (plus the drone) lead them to Yeti’s hideout. But they only brushed up against him briefly before Sam shot his weapon from his hand, and then he disappeared through his escape route. The story ended abruptly at that point – we saw that Yeti had a run-in with the giant spider, but the police apparently never found him, or knew who he was. But now, they appear to have a full dossier on him in their computer files, and they’re talking about him as if they know him well.

I’m guessing this is because our guest writer had a very restrictive story length limitation.

Shelley clears this up in a subsequent strip. When I was asked to fill in, and once it was specified that I bring back Yeti, I worked up something maybe a month or so later in the timeline, with no really direct link.I assumed the MCU would have, in the meantime, put things together on Yeti and his cronies, and wanted to avoid devoting space in this longer story with looking back as I worried it would lose momentum.Fortunately, she came up with a quick way to make the connection in a single day, and went with that.

1-DT: I see you finally got all your rotten teeth pulled, Sam. Maybe you should suck on an ice cube – those bloody gums are kind a making me sick…

2-SAM: Yeah, a dentist would’ve sutured ‘em up but we don’t have Dental so I had to do it myself.

3-DT: I bet that hurts! Why don’t you run back to the evidence locker and sniff a little pain relief?

SAM: Way ahead of you pal.

AL BINO: HEY TRACY! HOW YA BEEN? I BET YOU’RE SURPRISED TO SEE ME!

DT: HA! Without teeth, you sound exactly like that Al Bino guy!

SAM: It IS him – look at the VideoPhone!

DT: WHAT?!? WE CLAIMED HE DIED! I’m not looking. If I don’t look, I can still claim in good conscience that he’s dead.

AL: NO I’M NOT.

DT: Shoot the VideoPhone for me, Sam.

SAM: You might wanna move given the amount of pain killer I sniffed… AL: YOU LIED AND I’M STILL ALIVE! NAH NAH NA BOO BOOOO!

UNRELATED: Got my first 4-star review on the new audio book of one of my pulp tiles. I cringe, though, that he bought it before I had free codes available.

By the way, guys, I do like the analysis and speculation. It’s generally thought provoking, and I do take it seriously.

I’m confused. When did Tracy ever see Yeti, or learn his name? I only recall him appearing in one previous storyline, with no contact between them?

What the — Tracy has EYES?!?!

I think the MCU should put out an APB for an actual plot in this storyline. At least let us know what Yeti is up to, or what his connections to the mobsters are, or why we should care that Moran is dead & Yeti’s idiotic henchpeople are upset about it or went to the crime scene, or if some other villain is trying to frame Yeti (& why we should care about that). Just saying.

Right now I don’t feel like I’m reading a Dick Tracy story. just ideas for a Dick Tracy story.

The MCU detectives, Sam and Tracy, may be high on their skills today, but it still seems to me that we have something of a Detection Dilemma. On the one hand, the use of poison and petals points to Yeti [nevermind how the MCU knows him: they do!], yet the other actual clue at the Moran crime scene, a footprint seemingly from a woman’s shoe, suggests a female assassin. Yeti or a woman? Or both in criminal partnership?

Flower petals and poison. This is clearly the work of that villainess Poison Ivy. What, she’s in a different cartoon? Oh well.

Okay.Today she got Tracy’s chin right!
