A crew coming in, making a mess on Friday, and then leaving it for the weekend is only something that a handyman/scam artist might do. John may be used to hiring these kinds of contractors and is surprised they showed up on-time and not on a Friday.
I’ve heard that Germans are very punctual in keeping appointments. As a US citizen with some German ancestry, I feel like that sometimes plus I believe I first heard about it on the RewBoss channel on YouTube:
Brings to mind a Far Side cartoon. Two entrances to hell and over one is “Fire & Brimstone. Eternal Damnation” and over the other is “Living in Your House While It’s Being Remodeled.” There a well-worn path to the former.
“Sometime this week” means “the middle of the night”? And they just show up and get to work without making the slightest attempt to talk with the homeowners first?
This is similar to what happens with many service appointments for cable/satellite or appliance repair companies. They give you a window of time in which they plan to show up. “We will be there sometime between noon and 4:00pm” usually translates to 3:45pm.

That’s a pretty good crew. Starting early enough to wake the Dentist is a good sign of high work ethic. I’d let him sleep a while longer.

I’m going through that right now, they are rehabbing the apartment above mine. The landlord said about 4 weeks, which means 6 weeks.

What good would it do to tell her? What could she do about it?

In April 2022 “sometime this week” means 2024, maybe, if lumber and cement are available and affordable.

What must you make sure of if you are buying a car that was made by the UAW?
Make it sure it was not built on a Monday or a Friday.

Can’t believe they would get there THAT early. Eight or nine o’clock, but not while it is still dark.

That’s no reason not to yell your wife that the crew is coming this week, John. When were you gonna tell her - Thursday night?

You always have to clarify things, be more specific, because if not, that happens!
