I had a weekly conversation with my now-adult child almost exactly like this, other than my child implied the clothes would be put away, but they never were. She would wear the clean clothes as needed, make a mess out of the rest, and then return the basket on laundry day with half the basket still full of clean, folded laundry. I put up with that for years, started complaining after a while, set a time limit as to when I would stop laundering clean clothes, and stuck to it. I honestly can’t remember what happened other than I didn’t do it anymore. She was given instructions on how to do laundry. I know once I found a rug, a towel, and a shirt in the dryer. Three items that should never be laundered together.

Kate, know you don’t like violence. But in this case it would be justified as far as I’m concerned.

Did Mike emphasizes MAKE or EVERYTHING? There’s a difference between make/insist and everything/endless.

I don’t fold my wife’s clothes, just toss them in a basket where Harvey can steal her socks and trade them for treats.

He needs to learn how to do laundry. He doesn’t need to do it, just know how.

This calls for a back-of-the-head slap. Not particularly hard; just to make a point.
