Yes. It’s the thought that counts.

That sounds believable, but in my experience it’s not correct. The smartest-sounding people are thoze who curate their vocabulary for their current audience. Communication failures don’t make you sound smart.

Actually using 3 syllable words make you come across as condescending and speaking down to people. Learned that early in my career. Of course, I started out in the Navy and most sailors understood inflection. It’s amazing how many meanings a few 1 syllable, 4 letter words can convey.

Ah yes, the Navy. Words like Mess, Swab and Frak (Oops, wrong ship)
