He worked, paid the bills and was happy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that!

Those of us who actually had a job we enjoyed so much that we devoted what could have been personal time to it- I was a teacher- are the lucky ones. Most people just work to pay the bills, enjoy as many luxuries as the pay will allow and get on with their real lives, and, as long as that their work doesn’t harm anyone, I’m applaud them for living the lives they want.

I am about to retire from a job that will have covered 30 years in the same gov’t agency by the time I retire next year . I guess you could say my career was as a Fed. :o) My job was essentially the same from the start. Staff support. Started as a secretary for a branch, I now provide mostly administrative support for the whole center (but far beyond secretarial duties – I am called a program analyst now).

But it’s so much more rewarding when you’re getting a paycheck for something you enjoy doing.

I had that on a drink cozy years ago.

    “I thought I wanted a career…Turns out I just wanted a paycheck.”

A career is just a job you stick with.
