This has been great. The news channels which have been covering the Jubilee have had a lot of interesting historical documentaries. Back in 2014 – Peanuts made note of the 70th anniversary of D Day. It would have been great if even one U.S. strip had made note of this anniversary – Truly worth all the Hoopla!

PEANUTS REMEMBERS THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY – JUNE 6, 1944
As I said yesterday, I have fond childhood memories of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee back in 1977 – shortly after I discovered the Fred Basset TV show and comic strip.
I think this settles once and for all that this strip is British. Unless the pilot’s name is Lindbergh, that biplane will never make it to England…
Everyone over there and around the world needs to celebrate this one because it is increasingly looking like there won’t be a 71st as father time seems to finally be catching up to the legend, the Queen.
While being both American and Irish I’ve never been much of an anglophile, I have always had the upmost respect and admiration for Queen Elizabeth for her determination to enlist in the military and serve in WWII. I wish we could put a hold on time because the world will be less without her steadfast calm and warm smile.
As a U.S. citizen, I have never had all that much interest in the goings-on of the royals. I was mildly interested, but mostly could take or leave the news about them. I did feel some sympathy for Diana, though. I was married at the time, and having a great deal of trouble with interference from my MIL. So I thought to myself, “My mother-in-law thinks she’s the Queen of England, but poor Diana – hers really IS!” While I wish nothing but good for Queen Elizabeth II, was of the opinion years ago that she should have stepped down and let Charles take over. But I don’t know much about it, and it’s none of my business anyway!

Queen Elizabeth got to know her kids and grandkids and thought “I’m going to do my best to outlive all these wankers!”
