I’ve got those gnarly toes…and the much prefer sandals to shoes.

When did retired running shoes become the same thing as sandals?

I love sandals too! Maybe I can lend you my current favourites ~ silver t-strap, 3" or so chunk heel….

Why doesn’t he donate those old shoes to a homeless shelter?

Kinda agree with Frazz’s concern about ugly feet. Similar to seeing string bikinis on some more robust bodies. Sometimes just a little hard to accept. But, we adapt.

Someone asked why I always wear socks (I never used to). I said so I don’t scare children with my gnarly ankles.

Yup, I run marathons and I do not wear sandals very often for that very reason. Why should I subject other people to see the gnarly toes? Especially when I have newly minted black toenail.

Since I know most people don’t share my disdain for wearing flip-flops outside of the beach or locker rooms, I don’t say aloud the comments that come into my head when I see people wearing them in public. And recently I saw a woman using a bike wearing flip-flops turn the bottom of her foot into hamburger when one flip-flop came off and she had to use her feet on the pavement to stop (to avoid being hit by a car). I felt bad for her, but also thought she was an idiot.

? I run, and my toes are fine. Great, even.

Are Frazz and the kid participating in the same conversation?

“A Denali-sized pile of retired running shoes” you say? Sounds like the character who pontificates about consumerism being evil seems to consume quite a lot himself.
