As a cis-male hetero dude-bro, I have no idea if it’s a problem that the doctor asked that question. So I’ll just be glad I’m a cis-male hetero dude-bro.
Most hospitals have a rule that if a female is of menstruating age, preg text before xray just in case, doesn’t matter if she’s active yet. Or I wonder if Steenz is bringing up the fact that every woman gets these questions no matter the issue. We can be celibate for a year and docs will order pregnancy tests, menopause for over 3 yrs, pee please. I’ve heard of lady’s that have had hysterectomies being charged for a preg test. We end up being told that most of our medical issues are either due to our reproduction or our weight, it’s one of the reasons we hate going to the doctor, and are misdiagnosed so often.
How is it that the doctor doesn’t understand what she said has nothing to do with the task at hand, and that she can either ask about it afterwards, or just ask her mom privately?
Who wants a doctor who only does the bare minimum and just addresses the immediate problem before them? I appreciate doctors who want to make sure I’m healthy in all areas, and if their probing questions (and probing fingers!) make me feel uncomfortable it indicates an issue with me, not them. We’d certainly appreciate a car mechanic or plumber who does a thorough inspection, so why not a doctor?
This is my first comment ever… finally made an account just to comment on this strip! This was me at 11 years old. It wasn’t the doctor but his nurse and she made me so uncomfortable during a physical for summer camp that I asked my mother to swap doctors. Made me feel that periods were pathological and I was embarrassed about them for YEARS because of her clumsy behavior. Not everything has to be “since I’ve got a captive audience let’s do ten other things!” Hey, let’s not! And show some sensitivity to young people!

There are many things that make Heart tick. This is another thing to add the already long list.

Is this woman a doctor or a Texas Republican?

OK, I’m with Heart on this one. What the HELL does one thing have to do with the other?

Heart has started sprouting ‘stalagmites’, though .. apparently.

I think the doctor is somewhat intrusive, that’s not very polite (that’s my opinion)

The doctor should explain why she is asking that question. Late puberty can weaken bones.

Maybe Abby can just ask the doctor why she wants to know that when it’s not at all relevant.

Poor, Poor Heart. On the bright side, she won the bet.

Doc, can we fix the foot first?

And of course, the one thing Heart wanted to avoid has happened!

For a sprained ankle, I’m just impressed that they got all the way to the doctor and didn’t get passed off to the nurse-prac.

Deal with the ankle and explain why you are asking the question. There could be reasons, but the doctor’s approach is lousy. I agree, change doctors
