I have a retired friend who tries to keep them on the phone. His record is a little over 15 minutes. He is very disappointed with robo-calls. He wants to waste a real person’s time.
If the caller number does not have a name with it (those listed in my phone) I do not answer. If you really want me, leave a message. I may or may not return the call.
I get those calls to. I got one in Spanish last week. I had to tell he lady, “No habla Espanol” twice before she quit talking. One group calls and the message left sounds like squeaking. Have a scam free call day my friends.
We just had the windows replaced, and we had a man show up to give us a free estimate on window replacement. When we told him the windows had been replaced less than 6 months ago, he said “I thought they looked new, so do you want our free estimate?”
I get calls and texts from “Investors” who want to buy my property at a “fair and equitable offer” (for them). Every call or text allows me to add another 100K to the price. Today’s fair and equitable offer for me is now at $1.4 million. I will even give them the furniture if they want it that badly!
We have our answering machine on 24/7. People we know – know this. If someone is going to call one of us back – we tell them.
Even before the age of spam we had problems. Our home telephone number differs by one digit from one which belonged to a TV repair shop. It also differed by one digit (an 8 instead of 9) from an optician. And really best of all – it differs from the local Dominos pizza by one digit (same 8 instead of a 3). We always joke that we can’t order from Dominos as their number is always busy when we call. But to be serious – when my dad was ill for an extended period when we get calls (for Dominos) at 2am we would sit upright in bed in a panic.
Since we have no children and I worked from home most of the time we have been married we were the school emergency numbers for our niblings – still are for the one niece still in school. One day when my nephew (now in his late 20s) was young the phone rang and we were listening to hear who it was and we heard a woman saying “there’s nobody there” and then my nephew – “wait and the phone will answer”.
But now the problem is not telephone calls it is the spam texts! I will leave out which party it is to avoid any bad feelings – but for the last 4 Federal election cycles I get text messages from “the other party”. It started with a text message for me to vote for someone for Congress – and I did not even live in his district. Sometimes it is almost continuous! If I had planed to vote for that party’s candidates – the constant unsolicited text messages would change my mind – and my husband’s mind.

So relatable, my husband is also very polite, so I usually step in to be like Vicky. LOL.

The advantage at our house of having a phone that shows the number of the caller is that we can avoid such calls!

“I’m not at liberty to discuss that on an unsecured line.”
The robos don’t know how to respond to that.

It would be nice to wait until Peekaboo is bothering Rose while she is doing yoga, but I just saw this.
