I learned a long time ago not to ask the husband to buy something for me, always got it wrong. Moot point now, he has dementia and I do all of the shopping.
Husband and I go food shopping together – not by my choice. We go everywhere but the bathroom together and if we had 2 seats…
I used to keep a shopping list on the fridge. These days there is a list there and it gets copied as I go along into my cell phone. When we go out normally for a quick run somewhere (Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowes) I use the list in the cell phone. When we are making 3-4 week major food shopping run (better than 2020 into 2021 when we food shopped for 2 months at a time) I run through the food we have quickly and use the saved food shopping list in I have in Excel, update to what we need – sorted by aisle (since the pandemic started – we shop quicker that way) and the aisles are in the order we visit them, not the order they are in store – start at middle aisle and work way across to refrigerated, then refrigerated, then to other side of store to non-food if need something there, then meats, then frozen and the list matches this path.

Lesson learned: there are crockpot liners. I did not know that.

A programmer tells their wife they’re going to the store, and asks if they want anything.
“Get me a bottle of milk, and if they have eggs get me a dozen.”
The programmer comes home with 12 bottle of milk, because they had eggs.

So when you come back from the corner store with your candy bar you can say they didn’t have all that stuff.
