I agree, Randy. When I was in the hospital several years ago, my sick roommate said, “Unless I see that cap, I’m not sure who’s changing my IV… a registered nurse or a member of the housekeeping staff.”
I can’t remember the last time I saw a nurse wear a cap like that (or any cap style). Everyone dresses alike nowadays—from the janitor to an LPN to an RN. I suppose comfort is the reason. I am picturing Nurse Ratchet (sp?) from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The white pantyhose look itchy.
Sorry, I kind of like the dressed-down look of today. They look like they’re all business. So do all the X-ray technicians, physical therapists, inhalation therapists, orderlies, and all the other health professionals who do the nitty gritty.
I like that they’ve decided the hours of a week are better spent helping patients than maintaining someone’s silly idea of distinctive uniform. Their hours are too long as is. Covid showed every spy in the world where national defense against bio-attack is weak. Not saying they started it, you know they watched close. Militarize socialized medicine, not police states. End rant.
My mom was a nurse in the days of caps and white uniforms. When she worked for a pediatrician when I was in high school she wore her cap. She liked being reminded of Iowa Methodist Hospital where she took her nurse’s training.
“Capping ceremonies” used to be traditional at nursing school graduations (and still are at some). The cap was foremost a symbol of professionalism. Sometimes it was distinctive of a particular school by some feature or features. Nurse in caps looked like nurses (I know, because I was there at a university with a solid school of nursing and knew a good many personally).

As a child, I was frightened by the enormous wimple of a nun nurse at a Catholic hospital. This woman’s hat is quite demure in comparison.

Hey, it’s the nurse’s wimple. You could well star in a tv show called ‘The Flying Nurse’!!

Those PJs they wear aren’t complimentary to the profession, imo.

…nurses changed professional clothing styles…
…around the same time nuns gave up their habits…
…I gave up all but my bad habits…
…still got those…
…added to my collection, actually…
…even listening to that new fandangled mansplainin’ country music on the radio…
…now I know what beer to drink …
…what kind of vehicle to drive…
…and claim to be giving up chew…
…but don’t mean it…
…I often wondered why nurses used to wear white…
…with all the blood and other body fluids…
…now, like highschoolers…
…they can’t even wear dresses…
…except on this hot summer night sharing a malt or chocolate coke at Rudy’s…
…after a hard shift at the bathmat factory…

I love the nurses caps …it is professional, neat, and well respected! Too bad they don’t wear them anymore.
Today you don’t know nurses from doctors anymore. There’s more male nurses today than ever before…now THEY would look pretty funny in a nurses cap!…and to “top” it off, the cap provides a neater hairdo in females.
Some orders of nuns have stopped wearing their habits….

She could go to Gotham City General, and then be able to use bat-themed caps and pins.

Some of those coins on The Blog look like they were designed and struck by Picasso on a bad day.

When I was in the Navy, nurses wore starched stiff white uniforms with the white hat. So damn hot. I’m sorry nurses, but scrubs suck.
