I recently read that, long ago, Shatner was an understudy for Christopher Plummer in Henry V. He had to take over the role without rehearsal and was having trouble remembering his lines. He gave them in a halting delivery. The critics loved it, and he kept it.

Yes, Shatner started in Shakespeare.
