Actually, a new couch is in my future! If we can fit it through my back door!
The Catholic church had one of their estate sales last weekend. On Saturday, the third day of the sale, they left some things for free outside. One thing I found out there for free was a couch. My living room couch is very old and very tattered, so I thought I’d pick up this one. I called my brother, Mark, to see if he could help me pick it up. But we couldn’t fit it in his jeep. But there happened to be a guy there with a pickup truck who was looking over some of the other free stuff. A total stranger (I still don’t know his name) and he and Mark loaded the couch on his truck and then he followed me to my place to deliver it. Because of a back injury, he couldn’t help get the couch into my house. My back door is very narrow. Mark and I could not get the couch in the house. But Mark was having trouble with his vertigo, which makes it hard for him to function well. Anyway, another brother (Daniel) is coming this afternoon and he’ll try to help get the couch in the house. He is also bringing me a new (used) stove. He had a chance to buy a couple stoves from the hotel where he works and he asked if I needed one. It so happens that one of my big burners shorted out last year and and the other one shorted out just a couple weeks ago. Since one small burner quit a few years ago, I was down to one small burner. So, yes, I needed a new stove. I haven’t seen it yet, but Daniel is bringing it to me this afternoon. He’ll even haul away my old one to sell at a scrap yard. This new one is a glass top stove. I’ve never had a glass top, so any advice about care and cleaning is appreciated (like what happens if something boils over?)
NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DAY I’d love to bake some chocolate chip cookies in my new oven, but first, I need to have the outlet replaced. I have a 3 prong outlet, but Daniel told me the oven has a 4 prong plug.
NATIONAL IPA DAY National IPA Day on the first Thursday in August celebrates the beer known as India Pale Ale Beer. This is not for me!
I was surprised, too, that they put Annie in a cone after her spay. When I had Cassie and her daughters spayed, they didn’t get put in cones. And I was surprised they used the hard plastic kind instead of the soft, vinyl type. They say I need to leave the cone on for 10-14 days because it takes that long for the incision to heal. An eternity to poor Annie! I don’t know how I’ll do it, but I WILL get that cone off her head on the 10th day!
Blackjack has a minor eye infection/conjunctivitus so we took him to the vet yesterday. For our $78 we got eyedrops and his heart checked. No weight, no ear checks…nothing. I even had to ask the vet to put in the first drops!. You’d have thought I asked him to donate a kidney. We really need a third vet in this town. The population and housing explosion warrants it.
Oh, I almost forgot! I just had to share this bit of Walmart logic with you.
The parking lot at our store is in terrible condition. Just loaded with potholes. A couple years ago, they had planned to repave the entire parking lot. I was so looking forward to that! But then COVID hit, so they delayed it. Then they decided that they wouldn’t do it all. They said something about it costing too much money. Especially since prices have shot up so much in the past year or two (prices for EVERYTHING have shot up. I was stunned by my last grocery bill). They’d just do patch work here and there. And they did very little of that! But I noticed a new patch just yesterday that they had done recently. A few weeks ago, they repainted all of the lines in the parking lot. And now that the patch work is done and the lines are repainted, they decided that they are going to repave the entire parking lot. They’re going to redo all of our worn out sidewalk too, which I heard is supposed to start today. Our sidewalk has been in terrible condition for a long time too. A real trip hazard.
They said that the reason for repaving the parking lot is because of the new steak place that is going to be put up in part of our parking lot. They need the parking lot to “look nice” when that place is built. But we’ve known that steak place was coming for a year now. Why wait all this time to fix the parking lot? And why paint the lines BEFORE repaving the lot? Walmart logic.
I’d like a new sofa too. Mine is a convertible sofa which we have used as an extra bed in emergencies. It’s SO big and heavy that 2-3 doors would have to be removed to get it out. I’ve pondered reupholstering it and slip covers but I’d rather have a smaller, newer one. I can just hear my cats sharpening their claws in anticipation.
A new couch sounds good, but how long will it last? It could probably meet the same same fate as the old one. On another note, saw three chickadees, two robins, a dragonfly, a raven, and a wren while out walking today.

Most kitty horoscopes do not need to change daily, Chesney being the exception of course.
