You get better grades writing what the teacher wants you to write, Sally. Which is usually something she said in class.

I got the third last panel and all that came to mind was “There is no spoon”

Sally opens a Pandora’s box.

How good was he?

Washington was not a good man. He kept slaves his entire lifetime, only emancipating them at his death when he had no further use for them. And even most of them still didn’t get their freedom thanks to his family. Had he been a good man he would have freed them during his lifetime so that he could have been certain that they got their freedom.

That’s all too much for a Sunday.

Sally is referencing Uri Geller, whose spoon-bending “skills” were exposed by The Amazing Randi.

Washington was a traitor. He led a rebellion against his king. If the French hadn’t helped the colonists, England would have won, and Washington would have been hung for treason.

What you have to remember, Sally, There is no spoon.

Imagine what the people in the future will think of the people of the 21st Century.

How good was George Washington?

Sally, tell them what they want to hear rather than the truth and you have a future in politics.

My, my, what a brilliant mind for a little girl. I can remember making these same questions and conclusions, but not till my junior high school years. And, I remember doing this mind exercise again in college, though I never managed to bend any spoons.

History books don’t really tell you all the facts.

Too often “I don’t understand the question” really means “I don’t know the answer”. ;)

Sally asks a good question. My answer is it depends on the teacher. Some actually do want you to write what you think. Sadly most just want you to regurgitate what they told you.

I like how she just casually mentions bending spoons.

Look at any man. Or woman. You will find both good and bad if you are looking for them. Some maybe more one way than the other.

Being able to actually write the words: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.

And then go home and have dinner served to you by slaves is either the epitome of hypocrisy or a lack of self awareness that is not evident in any of the words that these men wrote. I don’t believe for a minute that anyone with a normal IQ could have believed that slavery was OK. They might have felt powerless to beat the system, and accepted the world they inherited. But, the words they wrote into the constitution prove that they never believed it was OK.

Not true. The top slave holder in the world is the Democrat Party. Since 1965.

washington sucks. But I’m not holding that against Sally; she’s just doing what she has to to get a passing grade.

George Washington has been called the indispensable man, and he was, the only president in American history elected unanimously.

If he had been properly treated for his pneumonia rather than being bled, he would have lived a few more years.

The third question is an opinion question?

Sally: Now I have to be wary of how the teacher might be reading into how I’m reading into the question!

Whoa – not so fast on that last assumption, Sally. Has the cancel culture crowd fully vetted him yet?

At least she didn’t have to lie about Christopher Columbus being a good man.

Sally can be LOL funny sometimes. “Oh I’ve bent a few spoons in my day….” Good one.

The teacher could have been more clear with the instructions. Very important in life.

It would have made more sense to have written that George Washington was the first President of the United States.

Always write what you think the teacher wants

My college years convinced me that to be a “good student” in the “soft” disciplines required that you write what fit the professor’s beliefs, no thinking required.

Thankfully I was a math and science honor student and could take all those classes pass or fail.
