I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say somebody needs to moderate their intake of frog juice; either that or we have another faulty Bathmat incident.

Blog: an emotional bond?

As a child I use to love spinning in circles like a top, until I would get so dizzy that I would tumble around and flop down on the lawn, the world tilting wildly around me, a bit giddy with the slightly out of body experience. I would lay there spent on the cool grass and feel the ship of my body slowly righting itself as the seas calmed and I came back into my mind. A leaf tossed on the wind, gently fluttering to the ground.

Is that an emotional bond? Because that’s what coming to Frog Applause everyday kinda feels like.

The quoted Watterson on the blog is correct. Most humans are set up to search out connections; community, where we can be told a story.

Laying in the field of colorful wild flowers brings beautiful, graceful, fluttering butterflies …stopping gently on my nose, and then, landing on my toes….the gentle breeze flows to and fro, then it flies into the sunny sky, landing on the swaying flowers….

Our younger granddaughter got to have a butterfly light on her this weekend while we were at a lakeside picnic area. She also took a great picture of a chipmunk with her new phone.

The Vampire Fritillary is a rare and shy butterfly; you have to “invite it in”, so to speak. As it feeds, its wings become brighter as its host becomes paler.

I agree that readers can form an emotional bond with the characters in comic strips, as with any other characters in books, movies, songs, etc. With some strips, it’s like visiting friends and having a good time hanging out, but with others it’s like “jeez Louise, what are these dopes doing NOW” or “jeez Louise, get over yourself already!” :)

Never seen a toe tag as colorful as that before.

They won’t be leaving anytime soon, I’m sure.

This strip refuses to give me a leg up.

I’m a big one for jumping the tracks. Make a new trail, leave your rut behind, that’s what I say. In other words, for humans it’s never rutting season. Frog Applause has a unique combination of characteristics that make daily jumping-out-of-your rut almost automatic. New, surprising artwork every day. Sometimes straightforward, sometimes enigmatic, each day’s laconic logisims have the effect of taking my brain by the lapels and giving it a shake. Nothing violent, mind you, just enough to unsettle the synapses and make, you guessed it, new trails.

And I haven’t even gotten to the commenters yet.

Frog Applause is like the butterfly that lands on your toe each morning.

That’s never happened to me. I once stepped on a bee while I was running barefoot through the grass, got stung and got infected. Surely, that counts for something?
