Diet myths are my favorites.

The people believing those myths are easier to find, but they already were held accountable already, as we see with the kid.

The supply of ‘easy believers’ has always been there but much more visible and vocal since 2016. Same for the ranters

Swing and a myth

Actually, a 4’ deep pile of leaves provides pretty good padding for a vertical drop. We used to pile them 4’-7’ deep in the driveway and jump from the top of the retaining wall (~10’).

Some myths are started by individuals, but most grow more organically — no single source to conveniently blame. A misunderstanding here, a false correlation there, an old wives’ tale absorbed along the way, and eventually the myth takes the form you know. Like Frazz implied, the reason it perseveres is because it isn’t questioned along the way.

here’s the “science” behind that : ) A deep pile of leaves will cushion your jump. However the leaves scatter a bit after each jump and also compact, so each subsequent jump is less impact resistant. plus no child will stop and rake the pile together again. And that jump will leaf an impression OUCH

Yeah. You can find them in any house of worship.

That’s not a myth! You just have to have a big enough pile of the right leaves in the right condition for your size.
