I have basically two months to downsize before the movers relocate everyone in our building for at least a month of renovations. Iāve known Mom and I have too much stuff for a long time, but have never been able to sustain the momentum to actually get rid of a significant amount. Right now, Iām feeling a bit like Dan in this strip. Weāll see how long it lasts. Mom is definitely on the āwe just need to organizeā team, though her physical condition places 99% of the work on me either way.
I can fully relate to this problem after my recent move from a 2 bedroom 1,070 sq. ft. apartment to a 1 bedroom 778 sq. ft. one. I am by no way a hoarder but as the last in my immediate family I have inherited all of whatās been left to us over the years which is precious to me.
I managed to pair it down some, but only the everyday things I rarely or never used were donated or tossed. Heartbreaking to have to decide what goes, but I managed to crowd it in.
Iām getting use to it now after a few months of figuring out where to put everything. Iāve even made it more āmeā which is Southwestern Style so I donāt feel like Iām living in a shrine. Doubt I will be adding anything else soon.
I went from three closets and 3 rooms to one closet and one room. I canāt find anything and the new housemate says my house is disgusting. I welcome the new housemate to move out if it is so bad. That said, I hauled 3 loads of stuff on the bus to the church yard sale, and 2 carloads (friends with cars help). Iām sure Iāll find more to haul down there before Friday. After that, DAV gets the call to come and get it. For years now I have been taking my momās and dadās stuff and writing stories around it and giving it to the family for Christmas. I think theyāre on to me. I ask only for edible thingsā¦.

My dad loved to āgiveā us stuff because he knew I couldnāt say no. Yup, it was quiet coercion.
