My wife and I had our honeymoon at government expense.
I was between schools in the air Force and actually had a couple of weeks off. It was sheer luck that it worked out that way. We set the date a year in advance. For all I knew, I could have been out of the country by then.
We got married in New York, flew down to Ft. Walton Beach (not a bad place), and drove across the south to my next assignment. We were going to spend a night in N’orlins’ but left 3 days later. We eventually made our way to Clovis, New Mexico.
Once I signed in, my leave stopped. My class did not start for another couple of weeks. So we spent our time exploring the southwest. My class started, she went back to finish nursing school and six months later, we started living happily ever after.

They couldn’t find a good ‘ton rate’ for air travel, the seats were too small, and the railroad had a load limit.
