Had two cats, brothers who were abandoned by their mother. One of them did the basic run and hide when he even saw the vacuum. ’Tuther one would follow me around, wait for me to switch nozzles, then he would hop on the bed and expect to be vacuumed! This was when cell phones were just coming out but no video capability. Tru story!
Years ago my husband & I got a kitten we named Alex. She was a teensy-tiny little thing. The first time I vacuumed after bringing her home, she was checking out the machine. I tried to get her to leave the room, but she kept coming back…until I turned the machine on. She jumped about a foot in the air, then took off. However, the second I turned the machine off she ran back in & attacked the machine! She jumped right on it, scratching, clawing, biting & yowling. From that moment to the end of her days, every time I opened the closet where we kept the vacuum – even if it was just to get a jacket – she would come running & attack it.
Our dogs ignored the vacuum cleaner right up until I turned it on, then it became the vacuum monster against whom they felt duty bound to protect me, the house and especially their toys from. I’d normally have to put them outside while I ran the thing.
What about when Odie got his face stuck in the vacuum cleaner so that he now looked like an anteater, or when he got gotten his tongue stuck in the vacuum cleaner, or even when he got stuck inside the vacuum cleaner and was barking from inside it?

My dog just waits outside until I’m finished vacuuming, watching me through the sliding door and then comes back in the house.

Odie has an arch nemesis now? Is he a superhero?

There actually is a Garfield game that has something to do with a vacuum cleaner.

And another pet falls to the Evil iRobot Vacuum cleaner. But the floor is now clean. Cats have adapted… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mk4XB2wZqF4

Interesting enough, most cats run away when a vacuum cleaner is on. Not Garfield.
