I guess this is what will pass for sports now when Ol’ Hank knows nothing about sports. The last real sports action was the kick that is not legal in American football. Today’s strip (especially Panels 1 and 2) would be appropriate for the beginning of the year, not several weeks after the season has started.
In all reality , I woke up to read all the negative comments about Hank’s lack of sports knowledge iand how poor his performance has been so far writing Gil Thorp. I vote for ( Remember don’t forget to vote ) giving him more support of his efforts. Here’s an example, end the football storyline and start boys and girls basketball , create some interesting players and bring back everyone’s favorite alcoholic Marty Moon . Come on let’s all pitch in with ideas !
In playoff football action last night, the Milford (OH) Eagles traveled to the legendary “Pit” at Cincinnati Elder where Milford suffered a 31-6 season ending loss to the Panthers. While the loss extinguished Milford’s burning desire to win it all, the Eagles can bask in the glow of a 9-3 season overall and outright third in the Valley, with their losses coming to only state ranked Division 1 and Division 2 and legitimate state title contending teams.
Margie has put on a few lbs. since we last saw her bidding farewell to dear old Milford. And where is that golden beach tan? Did her Milford Star pension tank forcing her to return to the work force? Where is H.E. Burns? Too many questions and too few panels.
I still feel a bit confused by this strip. I started reading it since Barajas took over the writings, with no background on it. I feel motivated to do that with strips I haven’t read ever since Terry Beatty took over the writings on Rex Morgan M.D. and is doing an amazing job on the strip.
There’s one thing that makes me want to come back to read a strip every day: focus. After Terry took over the writings, he solved the plots left unresolved by previous writer Woody Wilson and then decided to focus on one thing at a time, meaning no more multiple storylines going around. That’s a good thing for a comic strip for a simple reason: since it’s a daily thing, we can easily forget what happened last week. I know we have the options to read the strips, but that isn’t allowed everywhere — take Comics Kingdom as an example. A strip I’ve been criticizing lately for doing the opposite is Judge Parker: there are times I have no idea of what’s going on, since we read a thing today and tomorrow is a totally different thing and there are times we don’t even see a conclusion of what we read today.
I don’t know if that has always been a thing on Gil Thorp — many plots going on at the same time —, but I look forward for Barajas to finish anything left by the previous writer — Neal Rubin, according to Wikipedia — and start to focus on single storylines to develop.
By the way, can someone give me a simple list of the storylines going on?
Ah, yeah, before I forget, I read a comment about Thorp being “treated as a weak character” since Barajas took over — and that he has always been the “perfect guy” on the strip — and I think that Barajas is doing a great job if he wants to explore Thorp’s fears and weaknesses. If that has never happened before, it’s time to do it so we can see more of the main character and how he feels about the world around him and about himself.
So, yeah, keep it up, Barajas! Here’s hoping for an amazing run with you on the strip.
I’m actually kind of disappointed that Keri going to the concert seems to have been a one-off. Was looking forward to some awkward dialogue with Toby and that other “fine young chap”.
Marjie heard the rumors of marital trouble in the Thorp household and she couldn’t get out of retirement fast enough. And speaking of fast enough, you can’t go to this site fast enough if you want some high quality Mopped Up Thorp humor.

“Stellar Squad” — Gil’s Coaching Cliches 101 course continues to pay dividends. Tomorrow we’ll hear about “working hard” to prepare for “tough schedule”.

I would rate Ol’ Hank’s performance so far as minus 459.67 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 273.15 degrees Celsius) also known as absolute zero,

Heather is gone and Marjie is back. Henry is celebrating Guy Fawkes Day by blowing up whatever remains of continuity in Gil Thorp.
