We have a very friendly dog who thinks delivery drivers entire reason for existence is to give her rides in their truck. She also is a bit of a food thief. Once, when the UPS delivery person was bringing a package to the house, she helped herself to the driver’s sandwich. The word spread, and UPS drivers are now more careful about securing their food.
I had a Doberman who got outside and jumped happily into the mail truck as it was going by. The letter carrier froze – I assured her my dog was just looking for a ride, that she was safe, and I was there in seconds! My dog was just sitting there, smiling, looking forward to a ride. My current dog, as was true for my last dog, loves to see the UPS, USPS and Amazon delivery trucks. They are only taken out on leashes, so no problem with the ride thing. The Dobie let herself out, as I must have forgotten to lock the door. I was once visiting someone with Beagle #2, and she started to whine while looking out the door, a whine like, “There is a friend of mine!” I went to the door, and it was an UPS truck going by.

Knock Knock jokes such as this one were part of my 1970s childhood but I hear that they are little known to the children of the 21st century.

This got me to look up the history of UPS. Would you believe they have been around since 1907?

Substituting sweetness for humor is a reason I stopped loving “Mutts.”
