Those places are probably more of a “public square” than Facebrick or Tweeter. And like real public areas, if you try to make folks listen, they tend to move away and be annoyed.

I got a job selling shoes right out of college. I KNEW those Shoe Economic courses would come in handy!

with those sheepskins, you could be a lawyer a politician a presidentand nobody would notice so become a professor of journalism and make us all sick.

He has a fast food PHD.

A friend’s daughter was about to begin college when the pandemic hit. She has yet to step foot on her campus. The university just opened the campus to students but, due to a family illness, opted to not travel and be 4600 miles away if things got bad. I tease her that her degree is going to be from Bedroom University.

And.. that’s why a lot of those places are closing.. Taking up a table for hours without spending a dime… don’t pay the bills. Thanks.

Jack in the Box was my study hall while I went to in law school outside of my research time. Had a big table to put all my study materials out. I bought my coffee from them and usually some food. Background music was good. Also, as I was a cop at the time, management appreciated me there for the added security of an off duty cop.

Ain’t free WiFi great.

So where is he planning his post doc? Maybe Panera?

I got my doctorate at the library and its café.

I wrote my PhD thesis at a Mexican restaurant and my DSocSci thesis at a Ruby Tuesday. Both are gone now. If I go for a third, I think I’ll stay out of restaurants.
