It isn’t bud you just picked the worst possible target for it. In fact I don’t think it’d work on any of the fantastic five (What i’m now calling our main quintet and yes i’m counting the seagull. Amelia is headstrong but also way too clever to fall for it, Rose is far too analytical to not see exactly what someone’s doing, and as we see here Wallace is too pigehaded and Seagull is just.. a seagull. He’ll go wherever the plot needs him like the majestic bird he is.
A tiny black indecipherable spec is saying Will Henry today. I’m guessing it’s either a cave cricket – the creepy looking bug that looks like the unholy union of a centipede and a spider (that jumps) or the infamous bat guano
Great plan – something I’d have tried when I was young and (more) foolish: go into an unknown cave without ropes or lights. Cue the Timothy song…
Resembles The Baths at Virgin Gorda…not at all hard to find, so hundreds of tourists go there any given week—yet beautiful, just a delight to slosh through shady rooms amid the jumble of boulders.

With Wallace, all psychology is reverse. What to normal people is “a very bad idea,” is to Wallace “a very bad idea that rocks!”

That is one brave seagull they’ve got there.

Bravely bold Sir Wallace
Rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die,
Oh brave Sir Wallace.
He was not at all afraid
To be killed in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Wallace.

But it is Saturday. Does this mean this cave is just a one off and not a serial? Darn.

Got me! I thought Spud was turning over a new leaf in panel 2 until I read his sham reference.

Spud was hoping Wallace would dither and not enter the cave. He was so wrong.
