I still have a twenty dollar Christmas check from my Dad in my wallet. He died in 2009 when I was in my fifties and was still giving us all a gift every year. The thought and the time was the gift.
I used to send money for birthdays, Christmas, and other special events but never received a thank you note. After a comment the “You should just buy me a car, you can afford it.”, I stopped. Thankfully, a local family “adopted” my husband and me as their grandparents and a more wonderful family you could not ask for.
my grandmother sent me a check for 10 bucks for my birthday and it was a nice thought, but she just couldn’t understand why i didn’t cash it and kept asking me about it for years, reluctant, apparently, to believe my explanation. at the time in japan it would’ve cost me much more in fees than 10 bucks to cash it. probably hasn’t changed much now, but granny’s been gone for a while and won’t be sending me any more checks…
This reminds me of a joke. Forgive me if I post it here and not in “Believe it or Else”.
A child wrote a letter to God asking for $100. The postman thought it was cute and sent it to President Obama, who sent the kid $5. A while later the prez got another note from the same kid saying: “Dear God. Thanks for the $100 you sent me, but for some reason the letter got re-routed thru Washington, and, as usual, the bastids deducted $95.”

I’m sure Grandma wants to hear from you, regardless of the fact that you didn’t “write” in cursive, either.

If Grandma’s smart, that will be the last $5 she ever sends you.

I try to give all my grandchildren a gift every year…last one made my granddaughter cry. They’re truly grateful, no matter the amount!

Ah yes the sentiment of a true “Merican.” In the rest of the world it is the thought that counts. To “Mericans” it’s the price tag that counts.

Just think how much money Grandma could’ve saved if she hadn’t been a breeder!
