Actually, it was because the male dog was “prettier” than the female dogs they had available.

It actually had to do with their coat and molting (Weatherwax’s idea. He was the trainer.) But I like the shout out about female vs. male movie actors and salary differences. Meryl Streep would be proud of you, Red! Sorry to be so long winded today. I don’t prefer that in daily comments, lol!

Maybe Laddy identifies as Lassie, it’s Gender Identification Day. Ludicrous!

Here are some possibilities that are risky to say: One sex is easier to work with. One sex is easier to train. One sex is easier to control. One sex is moodier.

The gap was made very clear to me back in the 80s. My employer told me that they could pay me more if I had a gender neutral first name, because the people they were contracting for would not know I was a woman (and my job was writing).

Oh for heavens sake don’t tell M.T.G. or she will go into one of her nonsensical tirades, probably about Paul Martin “grooming” Lassie.

Red sure doesn’t appear concerned about the pay inequality. It seems to make sense to him.

Albert Payson Terhune wrote a book called Lad a Dog in 1919, which my mom read to my sister and me when we were children. Lad is the same breed as Lassie is. This could be a reason.
