Underwear, and socks. One year, when my young son didn’t make a Christmas list, I cautioned him that all he’d get would be socks and underwear. So that’s what he got. (I kept the good stuff hidden away until everything else was opened.) What began as a joke has become a Christmas tradition. The first presents are always socks, even for his wife.
I fell for it. Being a holiday trivia geek, I had to check Wikipedia if somebody named Tinsel Washington actually invented the stuff. That’s when the Denzel connection clicked and realized I had been had. Well played, Mike. On the other hand, I learned that prior to the 19th Century, tinsel was not used on Christmas trees but was hung on statues which blew my mind and makes me want to start a movement to bring this practice back. This is a win-win all over the place!
