She made sure, no one killed the messenger…

When in management, an employee was caught stealing, (proof and documentation), and my boss pulls me in his office and orders ME to fire her. I asked why ME! He said because I’m telling you to fire her. His took me by surprise and I had never had to fire someone before. I had to gather my thoughts and composed my self and called her in my office. She didn’t take it so well, and was screaming and etc. that was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Coward! He didn’t want to be the “bad guy”!

After owning my own business for over 32 years, I did have to fire another person….once again, it didn’t go well and she caused a scene and threw stuff at me..after I demanded the keys back….I picked up the phone and said if she doesn’t leave, I’m calling the police…..she threw the keys at me and left. Even being tactful and using words of encouragement, she still went ballistic. It’s a shock to be fired but on the other hand, interests must be protected, and one must do, what one must do. ☹️

During my 35 years in management, I had to fire a number of people. It’s a brutal part of the job, but I never had quite as bad a time as what you described. Maybe my toughest experience along those lines was early in my management career when my boss fired a guy who had a company car, and I had to drive him to his home 45 minutes away. He alternately sobbed and boo-hooed during the entire trip. Ugh.

What’s also impressive is that Rita appears when you DON’T want her to.

Except for Rita’s 25% Bonus that is. Typical greedy corporations.

    POW!” ???

Are we sure she disappeared in a puff of smoke or did R&D accidentally blow her up with an experimental intercontinental ballistic copying machine?

Hey Scott, I’ve read you for many years… but how about something a bit more “Don Martin” for Rita disappearing…? Perhaps “Foooowitch!” “Schnarrrf!” Or even just a simple, “Fow!”

It’s a trick corporate overlords use to fool ranks and file workers into substandard wages. Add a “signing bonus” and you’ve just created an HR Department.
