I wonder if that can be done with sunglasses; there’d be no need for batteries.

This seems to imply that the reason we can’t see them (their flash) is because it is too bright out to see their lights during the day (when the sun is out). Most fireflies light up only when it is dark (usually/mostly at dusk or just after sunset for about 20 minutes up to several hours). Some species that fly during the day (are diurnal) do not flash.

“Colt Horace with the olde Flashdark Came”

MY  first thought was, he lied in every word,

That horsey critter, with delicious eye

Took chance to watch the working of his lie

On mine, and mouth scarce able to afford

Suppression of the glee, that purs’d and scor’d

Its edge, at one more fan gain’d thereby.

FLASHDARK! What a concept! You could keep one in the car for those annoying headlights that pierce your retinas, or when driving into the sunrise or sunset, or that nice cop- ah err… have a nice day officer.

If you are going to flash someone in the dark, it loses its purpose. What? Flash dark means something else?

The climate where I live doesn’t support fireflies, I’ve seen them in videos and on TV but never live

That must be expensive. Not exactly a mass-market consumer item. Does it come in a “black light flash dark” version, so I can see my black-light posters glow in the daytime?

Brits call it a torch; Yanks call it a flashlight. I call it a man made, handheld dark sucker (never caught on for some reason).

Oh cool, I wonder if I could get darking fixtures at the darking center. I know dark bulbs are obsolete but maybe they have DED lamps.

Flash Dark an incredible device only Houyhnhnms could think of and build.
