Y’know, when I was her age, I understood that magazines have cover dates relating to when they’re supposed to be on the newsstands, which is later than when you see them. (There’s also the matter of not taxing anything with a date on it, as New York did when I was there.)
As someone who used to write articles/ stories for magazines and a radio show… these things are planned 2 to 6 months in advance. The April issue of the magazine is put together, articles written, photos taken, in February or even earlier.

The cover date on magazines is when they go off sale, not when they come on sale. It is very confusing.

Then there’s the trick of asking for a renewal six months before your subscription expires.

There’s a magazine I like at the library which always comes in one month before its date.
Except there was a subscription problem and now they’re two months late.

Take an overseas magazine subscription and you’ll really get confused.
