I have to get this out, because it keeps repeating in my head, the last line of that part oc Cosby’s monologue, “…and your team must wear red and march in a straight line.” And I have not heard that bit in decades, although I still have the “Why is there air?” album around.
I think the idea of “receive” here is that it was exclusively American soil that was on the receiving end of 100% of the actual warfare. The US never invaded the British Isles during its War for Independence.
I won’t question the historical accuracy, since it takes place in a cartoon universe, whose history doesn’t have to be the same as ours. But I will question why anyone would regard it as a funny cartoon.
