My great grandmother was from the Abenaki tribe of the Algonquin nation from Quebec. The Algonquin Nation includes several tribes from different areas of North America. My mother’s family always played down our First Nation heritage. I guess that they were ashamed of having “Indian” blood in our family. I am as proud of that heritage as I am of my Celtic heritage which we will be celebrating on St Patrick’s Day next week. Sadly, I have no way to celebrate that portion of my heritage as records have been lost, though it has been confirmed by blood tests of two of my siblings……
