You replace “search engine” with AI chatbot using LLM and you have the same story repeating itself.
I am getting tired of correcting these AI chatbots. I knew a portion of Highway 101 was only one-lane traffic at a certain location. I asked one of the top (realtime) AI chatbots about places restricted to one-lane traffic on Highway 101. It gave me a list but that spot was not on the list. I checked other sources to be sure it was still one-lane, then told the AI chatbot to add it to the list.
I then asked if they were weight restrictions through that region (because it is a cracked section of elevated highway). The chabot told me it was limited to 10 tons. I asked if a moving van would be allowed through and was told it would not. I asked how much a typical moving van weighed. It told me between 8,000 and 10,000 pounds. I pointed out this was less than 10 tons and the AI chatbot apologized and said a moving van would be able to go throush.
It’s often like talking over the phone to a child genius locked in a library. You have to DOUBLE-CHECK EVERYTHING. Not sure how useful that is.
Are search engines a form of artificial intelligence? Yes, they are. Are they as good as humans at some things? No, they’re not. Are they better than humans at many, many things? Yes, they are.
Just because your auto mechanic can’t cure your lumbago doesn’t mean he’s worthless.
Reminds me of a Simpsons episode where Homer gets a new job from someone who, unknowing to Homer, is an evil overlord. And he is the only person who doesn’t laugh at Homer’s dream to own the Dallas Cowboys. And while Homer is enjoying his new life, the rest of the family is, well…, not so much. So, to please his family, he resigns and takes them back to Springfield. And the overlord, as a reward for his help, gives him the Denver Broncos. The overlord believes that if Homer does for them what he did for his plan, he, too, will laugh at the thought of owning the Dallas Cowboys.
