In an article published yesterday on âGrunge.comâ, author S. Flannagan listed GA as one of âTHE MOST CONTROVERSIAL COMIC STRIP MOMENTS IN HISTORYâ. Here is what he had to say:
âHowever, one unusual aspect of âGasoline Alleyâ has become somewhat absurd in recent years â Kingâs strip had a very unusual innovation right from the start. His characters aged in real-time. At the launch of the strip, the protagonist, Walter Wallet, was a young man, and as the years passed, readers saw him and his supporting cast grow older, marry, have children, and eventually die. But Wallet himself lives on as a widowed great-grandfather, defying, for now, the comicâs own internal logic."
While whatever it is theyâre wearing seems to be nondescript, surely someone in 1863 would look at them and say, âWhat manner of strange garb is this?â And talking about things 160 years in the future to someone who represents keeping things in line isnât exactly going to make this a low key trip for them. Theyâd better gather a few Indian head pennies, sojourn to the local apothecary and invest in some penny candy instead.

Women have made great strides in this country in the 160 years since the year this arc is supposed to be.
But we still have a ways to go. IMO, the US is LONG overdue for a woman POTUS.
