The main reason I gave up smoking about 40 years ago was that it was inconsistent with my plan to live to be 104 years old. So far, so good.
Also it was a habit some people didnât appreciate. Although I have to admit that when I did give it up some people didnât notice and others said, âYou didnât smoke that much anyway.â I guess they figured two packs a day not to be âthat much.â
But one of the prominent reasons was to legally cheat the government out of taxes. When I was in the military, I could get cigarettes as cheap as 25 cents a pack. The military âgot wokeâ and changed that policy along with cheap liquor.
I now live in North Carolina which has one of the lowest tobacco taxes in the nation. I should move to New York or California or Washington State to save more money.
Washington State has am annual tax on electronic vehicles. Thatâs because their owners donât pay tax on gasoline. I wonder if they will enact a tax on non-smokers.
I have trouble with some medico half the size of the Hindenberg telling me I need to lose weight. Yeah, I could stand to shed a few pounds, but this is the pot calling the kettle black.
The smoking questions are obviously healthcare related, but my doctor asks numerous lifestyle questions that are flat-out none of her beeswax, being only tangentially health-related. I know sheâs being directed to ask nosy questions such as how many floors in my home, is there a gun in the house, and about my pets, that I shouldnât have answered and in future will not.

..Because if your dog doesnât smoke, Iâd call the fire department, because your house must be on fire.
