Yes, a fad is a fad. But today, this generation has been taught that “protesting” is somehow virtuous and civic — always. Even if that means protesting for the sake of protesting, apparently.
The right to protest and free speech are guaranteed in our constitution. So if you want to protest nothing have at it. At least it’s sunny here today.
I have a Richie Rich comic book where protesters have signs saying “Down with Down, Baby”, “Up with In” and “Out with Straight”. I don’t think they’re protesting anything specific.
Question: What are you protesting? Answer: I can’t remember. Question: Then why are you protest? Answer: It must be important. That’s why I have this sign.
In 1965 there were people who really did think protesting was a fad, or claimed to. Of course they were all white people well past the age to be drafted….

That’s OK, I’ll protest her protest. From a distance, of course, but I’ll protest, because that’s the fad, and I have to follow it!

I wouldn’t get snippy with her. What she’s holding is just a wide, flat club.

A fad protest of whatever is deemed repugnant until the next shiny object is deemed repugnant and that becomes the new fad protest.

Add an ANT to the end of that sign. Then you will have something more to argue about.

I can see someone as conservative as Johnny Hart looking around at 1965 and thinking the Civil Rights Movement was only a silly passing fad.

But I have yet to see anyone antitesting.
