I learned not to play poker in the Army. There was nearly a fight after I won a small purse in a penny ante game, it was $12 and someone took exception to the fact I gathered up my winnings and quit while I was ahead. I haven’t played poker for stakes more than toothpicks since and the only rarely.
In an old deck (pre-french revolution) four kings would have beaten four aces. Even four twos would have beaten four aces. But after the french revolution succeeded the king couldn’t be the highest card anymore, so they decided that the ace was worth more than the king. That’s why in blackjack the ace is worth both 11 and 1 and why decks don’t have a 1 card.
I remember a “feminist” card deck where the king and queen had equal value, and the Jack was called a “Jackie”. I don’t know if there were any other adjustments.
Once on the old “Adventures of Superman” TV show, “Clark Kent” was playing poker with a baddie. The baddie showed 4 Aces, but “Clark” beat him with 5 aces.

Four deuces and a joker beats four kings. (Never mind how I know this)

And Blanche should never play poker with the Fink. I don’t think the Fink would like the idea of a queen being his equal

I’d play poker with a feminist, but not for money.

And today they’re even worse and feel more entitled.
