I never believed that in order to be appreciated that music had to be played loudly. Also I spent a good part of my working life wearing ear protection. I still have decent enough hearing.
In one of the classes I took at our church, we attempted to simulate issues faced by senior citizens so we can better understand them. I don’t know why, everyone in the group was over 60. I was probably the oldest at 74. We did things like try to button clothes with thick gloves to simulate loss of manual dexterity and look through glasses that simulated vision loss.
One of the exercises was to make a phone call while wearing ear plugs. It was a failure as an exercise, I actually heard the party on the other side more clearly (although at reduced volume). Ear plugs are designed to pass frequencies for the human voice and block others, so the ear plugs actually cut out the background noise.

Over 70 or under 7 you can get away with anything.

Nope, I can’t get away with next to nothing and it’s going down to zilch.

If he’s at home, ok. In a waiting room or crowded area, not so much.

The higher the pants go, the higher the phone volume.

I’ve never liked sharing my phone calls with anyone.
