We called them fireflies where I come from, Petey — little winged wonders spreading fiery death and destruction.

First time I’m seeing Petey without socks. Also, what’s with that multi cover book he’s reading?

I guess that means he won’t be catching any.

I miss them from my childhood in Missouri. We don’t have them in the Pacific NW.

We have lightening bugs here in Maryland. I love to watch them. Little lights showing in the darkness. They’re so pretty.

A couple of weeks ago I was fortunate enough a couple to see the synchronous fireflies in the Great Smoky Mountains. It was magical.

It is firefly season here right now. They have been out the past few clear nights :-))

Whether you call them lightning bugs or fireflies, they are pretty. They get their glow from bioluminescence, not fire or electricity, so they are perfectly cool. I remember seeing them as a child in Michigan. Too bad we don’t have any in El Paso, TX.

Now that I’m old and full of sleep I don’t see them much anymore. But when I used to fly early to work in NYC from Michigan you’d see dozens of them at about 3am. Not only fireflies but deer, foxes and the occasional coyote. 3am is a different world.

This is one of the rare times when I absolutely stand with Alic and against Petey, usually My Hero, but not today. Lightning bugs are precious and in danger. I wish I could see some again (haven’t seen any in more years than I can remember)….

A summer tradition here in Vermont, where they show up on humid evenings around the 4th of July. I catch the quiet fireworks from the porch.
