Baseball strike, WGA (Writers Guild of America), Actors union. It must be disappointing when some people go on strike and so few care. Even more enlightening when they go on strike and so many are happy and relieved.
I couldnāt remember when I quit watching baseball. It was after one of the strikes or lockouts. The 70ās I think. Been watching college softball the past two years. Pretty exciting.
Iāll always think of the 1994ā95 Major League Baseball strike as the one that cost the Atlanta Braves a World Series win.
Like Jason, many fans didnāt come back afterward. It took the Mark McGwire/Sammy Sosa competition to break Roger Marisā single-season home-run record in 1998 to get people excited about baseball again.
I stopped watching professional sports as a teenager when I realized all they cared about was money ā and with the multi-million contracts today ā the average family cannot afford to go to a game ā hard to teach āsportsmanshipā to kids today with the proās being arrested for felonies all of the time -
Wouldja lookit that, I stopped watching baseball not long after this strike referenced in the strip. Not because it canceled the World Series, but because Roberto Alomar spit in an umpireās face for calling him out on a close play

This was the strike where they should have insisted on a salary floor and cap. It is too out of control now.

I stopped watching about the time the players started spending more time adjusting their sponsored clothing than playing the game

Constant bickering so each side could make a bit more killed my love of baseball. Basketball and football seem to have edonomic matters under control.
