The true farmers markets are just starting to get local produce.
It is sad to see people going to the farmers markets off season and buying the same produce that they would get in the store. It is also sad seeing people buying organic fruit out of season, knowing that that fruit was either in long storage, or shipped a long distance, so it was picked green, and who knows what all happened to it to get it ready to sell.
But I do love the fresh fruit from my small local orchard, when it is in season.
I’m proud to be a farmer! Farm and ranch families comprise less than 2% of the U.S. population. 2% feed the other 98%. Don’t complain about the farmer with your mouth full.
I grow my own few tomatoes and peppers annually. Anything else depends on my mood at the moment. I may pick up an heirloom tomato plant this weekend though.
I used to go to the Kam Swap Meet back in the day. It was a good way to get out and do some stuff without having to really spend to much money. Those days are long gone.
We are a part of a Farmers Market in our rural area. Produce is grown by members and is fresh from the field. No store bought produce in this market. Added to the sales is the opportunity to meet and engage with people.

Did you hear about the lettuce farmer who was murdered on his way to the farmers’ market?
They found his romaines at the scene of the crime.

Is she only interested in getting vegetables?
Is this going to be a fruitless venture?

Call any vegetable, and the chances are good that the vegetable will respond to you.

I still question organic. How do you know? To pay extra for something that doesn’t look or taste different.
