I wonder if Schulz eventually used this as his idea for parts of the Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown movie where they do go to England for a bit and Snoopy plays tennis at Wimbledon.

Try the bangers and mash or bubble and squeak too, or go north of the boarder and have some haggis with tatties and neeps. Seriously, I recommend all of the above. Just don’t ask what’s in haggis until after you’ve developed a taste for it.

What is a kidney pie?It is a pie filled principally with a mixture of diced beef, diced kidney (which may be beef, lamb, veal, or pork) and onion. (Google so it must be true).

Try it at least once, others eating it are not dying so it should be safe.

If kidney pie is made from kidneys, pumpkin pie is made from pumpkins, and almond pie is made from almonds, what’s shepherd’s pie made of?

Nowadays, Snoopy would see Starbucks, KFC and McDonald’s absolutely everywhere he goes in London – we even have Five Guys, Wendy’s and Popeye’s. I don’t think any of my friends have ever even had kidney pie. England is an immeasurably less characterful place in 2023 as compared to when this strip was published. English people don’t even talk the way you see them do in old movies – the “mouthful-of-pennies” accent is pretty much extinct.

Kidneys never appealed to me, but James Joyce’s description of the smell of frying kidneys solidified my distaste.

Don’t forget the warm beer you can buy in pubs. The ice, in some places, isn’t plentiful.

Poor Charlie, he don’t know English food, and most in England don’t relish English food, that’s why they all go to Indian restaurants

You get awfully tired of baked beans with your breakfast.

And in England, they make Heinz Beans from a different formula than they do in the USA
