I know of a retired philosopher who once researched longevity. He gave up on the idea when he decided it wasnât worth it to starve himself to concentration-camp proportions. Heâs about 90 now.
Organic? Always preferable, not always affordable. Vegetables? Sometimes even more expensive than organic meat, even when in season. WTF?
Whole-grain products? Love them, especially as ingredients in my self-made multi-grain bread. Delicious!
Self-made pizza: OK; all-purpose flour mixed with durum wheat semolina right now. But only a pinch (one gram per pound) of fresh yeast. Just give it time.
Durum wheat pasta without the eggs. Weâre not intolerant, but the dishes where I need eggs are scarce. And some of our friends are intolerant food-wise.
Love the idea of at least 8 hours of sleep. But wait a minute â over what period of time? Day? Week? In one hardly interrupted peace/piece? If itâs the former: Fun!!!
âhe eats only real foodâ â whatâs the definition of ârealâ food? raw? unprocessed? hunted with a spear? baked? boiled? grilled? easily spoiled?
Send this Attia guy over . I have a pile of wood that needs Cut ,Split and stacked . Dude likes exercise so this way I may help him get his 2 hours a day ;-)
Real food is anything thatâs directly related to something you can see growing in a field. Use common sense applying that definition and youâll do just fine. Donât worry, youâll still be allowed to eat potato chips.
âNo Laughing in longevityâ I kinda understand everyoneâs focus on food, but for me I am more happy with good friends. Food may be important, but without my friends I wouldnât want to continue.
Quantity of life vs Quality of life â many of the things we choose to do may enhance our quality of life while potentially shortening is quantity. Itâs a serious consideration; a balance is advised.
One can eat healthful foods, get adequate sleep, and still have a lot of fun. In fact, Iâd say that feeling good and not sleep-deprived is essential for long-term fun / enjoyment of life.
Donât post about your great-grandfather who smoked all his life, drank like a fish, etc etc, and lived to be 95. An occasional outlier does not invalidate a general rule.
Are you KIDDING me??!? There is no longevity withOUT laughing, giggling and smiling. A LOT!!!! Iâm very fortunate in that I can laugh at myself and provide endless cause to do so.

He also eats one meal a day, and shaves his head, so saves time that way.

DOC: If you give up processed foods, drinking, smoking, running around with loose women, you will live to be 100.
Me: But if I have to give up those things, why would I want to?
