Wallace: “So… just don’t get caught?”

Summers are so short, and you only get a handful of them as a child. Hate to see this. This arc is making me sad.

Lesson 1., Wallace. Moms have eyes in the back of their heads, AND can hear a pin drop at 90 paces. Plus your Mom has Sterling, so her senses and reflexes are highly sharpened. You can’t get away with anything. Fact.

Reminds me of the time I was grounded for half the summer once as a kid

“From here to eternity”.

“It is easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission”

At least he has Seagull to hang out with again

Miss Shields:Now I know that some of you put Flick up to this, but he has refused to say who. But those who did it know their blame, and I’m sure that the guilt you feel is far worse than any punishment you might receive. Now, don’t you feel terrible? Don’t you feel remorse for what you have done? Well, that’s all I’m going to say about poor Flick.

Ralphie:[narrating] Adults loved to say things like that but kids knew better. We knew darn well it was always better not to get caught.

How do you not get caught if you are missing your shoes for months?

I suppose different families have different grounding rules. Where I grew up (South America), there was no grounding or being sent to one’s room. There was mother’s stony silence, which was worse and more damaging.

Psst, hey, Wallace….

As long as you’re there, and grounded anyway, why don’t you get off your fanny and help Mom weed those flowers? You know, just to be nice. Not for any other reason. Maybe show her that you care?

Both lessons are very important.

Life has consequences. If mom doesn’t stay the course Wallace will never learn.

I’ve never met a kid that didn’t make that same “or don’t get caught” assumption though, so that’s probably the best you’re going to get, mother dear.

All of us are grounded with Wallace- we can’t follow along with him on adventures as long as he’s stuck at home!

Dang those porch steps are spaced far apart!

Help Mom in the garden! Then you’re outside and doing something, and getting in Mom’s good graces at the same time.
