No, the cherry tree thing would be held against him because, even though he said he cannot tell a lie, the cherry tree thing didn’t happen and he just told the story to gain cred.
OK, ‘environmentalist’ here. A: In the story, the cherry tree was planted by GWs father and was cut down, as a sapling, by a child. So, not old growth forest or anything like that. Just a thing between father and son about a garden plant. B: Mount Vernon was a model farm, based on that time’s latest scientific farming principles. Crop rotation, soil conversion, that sort of thing. Property owners of the time didn’t have access to later fertilizers so if cash crops destroyed your soil you had to move. Anyone with any brains became an environmentalist, that is, a student of the environment and the impact of human use on it. That said, I think GW would be most appalled at the casual coarseness of everyday conversations these days. People are happy to denigrate other humans whom they do not know, and to repeat lies they know to be lies just to hurt others.
Washington could have been made King, not wanting that was one of the drivers of the adoption of our current system. That being said, the founders would be appalled at how slavishly Americans now follow their archaic words instead of changing them to accommodate changing conditions.

He’d also run as an Independent. He hated the idea of political parties.

He also owned slaves. Not EVERYTHING about our origins was glorious or something to bring back.

Okay except for Carmen’s comment. Environmentalists generally do not have the analysis skills of the basic Trump Disciple.

He’d mop up the floor with trump, but the MAGA crowd would never vote for anyone with statesmanship.

A VERY good book just out discussing Washington and his Cabinet and how George created the institution of the Cabinet itself.
Way in the back, hidden in the epilogue, is a brief comparison of Washington’s and Trump’s Cabinet.https://www.amazon.com/Cabinet-Washington-Creation-American-Institution/dp/0674986482

If Adams came back, he’d say “Why did you bring Jefferson back first?!?’”
If Hamilton came back, he’d call Lin-Manuel Miranda and say “Where’s my cut, you bloodsucker?”

A debate between George Washington and Donald Trump would be very entertaining, especially if Trump pushed Washington to release his temper.
