People sometimes compare Andy Capp to Compo Simmonite in “Last Of The Summer Wine”. Someone recently stated, “Compo in Last Of The Summer Wine was a dead ringer for Andy”. Last night, I watched Bill Owen as Compo in an episode of Last Of The Summer Wine and later saw a younger Bill Owen guest starring in a British police show from 1959 called “Dial 999”. 1959 was also the year in which Bill Owen had a supporting role in the second Carry On film “Carry On Nurse”. He had also been in the very first Carry On film, “Carry On Sergeant”, and would have supporting roles in two other early Carry Ons – “Carry On Regardless” in 1961 and “Carry On Cabby” in 1963.
The Bill Owen coincidence continued this morning when I saw Bill Owen guest starring in an episode of “The Adventures of Robin Hood” from 1957. Bill Owen’s character was a lot like both Compo and Andy as he was an irresponsible drunken idler.
Andy BOUGHT a round?! Surely, he sustained a concussion! Because, Andy buying, or even being ABLE to buy (!) a round for ANYONE has got to be a FIRST for this entire comic strip! (If there was another time, let us readers know!)

OK guys, at least make your punchlines believable.

Being uninitiated, I looked up the term, “kipper.” If Andy got smacked in the kipper, the bandage is really in the wrong place.

Apparently, kipper is British slang for nose. Or maybe head. Either way, Andy is definitely not himself.
