It’s an ancient skill like reading physical newspapers…

That’s why we used to say “the journey unfolded”.

I’m from an age where the ONLY way to find your way around was physical maps…It ain’t that hard.

I miss actual maps. They give you a better sense of where your are…not just how to get from point A to point B.

I’m a map guy. I love the GPS and technology, but reading a map is special and has become a lost art

Maps mean something to me. Turn-by-turn directions, not so much. I do like my GPS, because it will tell me how far I have to go before getting over to get off my exit.

If I am planning a significant trip. I will bring up Google Maps so I can get an idea of the route and “memorize it.” It is easier for me to memorize a picture than it is a bunch of words.

You’re a boomer if you and use GPS but still know how to read and fold a paper map.

Symbolism seems to confuse some folks. I actually read maps for entertainment.

I found a New England map from the 1950s in a used van that we bought. I was excited and put it on a bookshelf alongside books from my favorite authors. A little while later I found it crushed and messed up when the kids kept shoving it around. Sigh.

Look for the little “You Are Here” icon and start from there.

As a retired ‘over the road’ truck driver during the 70’s & 80’s, I learned how to read a map and never got lost!

Should have downloaded the area on the phone from the app so it would still work without a signal. Or invest in a GPS app that has them all local.

Ummmm. .. GPS Isn’t dependent on cell signal, and only map updates require one, as well.

I hike and GPS is nice but a dedicated hiking app is better though a dead phone is useless when you are lost, if it’s a new trail get a map and always have a real compass – not one you downloaded on your phone.

Geez … how young, uninformed, unaware, lazy are these people? Even map apps like google maps show an actual map. Are they just relying on the disconnected voice.

as a kid I was in charge of reading the map — I loved doing that. figured it would be something I would always do and eventually teach my kids. guess how that worked out

we usually end up getting out the map after the “car navi” (what they call GPS in japan) gets us confused enough…
