Maps mean something to me. Turn-by-turn directions, not so much. I do like my GPS, because it will tell me how far I have to go before getting over to get off my exit.
If I am planning a significant trip. I will bring up Google Maps so I can get an idea of the route and āmemorize it.ā It is easier for me to memorize a picture than it is a bunch of words.
I found a New England map from the 1950s in a used van that we bought. I was excited and put it on a bookshelf alongside books from my favorite authors. A little while later I found it crushed and messed up when the kids kept shoving it around. Sigh.
I hike and GPS is nice but a dedicated hiking app is better though a dead phone is useless when you are lost, if itās a new trail get a map and always have a real compass ā not one you downloaded on your phone.
Geez ā¦ how young, uninformed, unaware, lazy are these people? Even map apps like google maps show an actual map. Are they just relying on the disconnected voice.
as a kid I was in charge of reading the map ā I loved doing that. figured it would be something I would always do and eventually teach my kids. guess how that worked out

I miss actual maps. They give you a better sense of where your areā¦not just how to get from point A to point B.

Symbolism seems to confuse some folks. I actually read maps for entertainment.

Should have downloaded the area on the phone from the app so it would still work without a signal. Or invest in a GPS app that has them all local.

Ummmm. .. GPS Isnāt dependent on cell signal, and only map updates require one, as well.
