I don’t really recall how well my pants held up in my youth. We did wear jeans (from JC Penney in my case) but seems to me they only got washed weekly… or MAYBE every 3 or 4 days. I do know that when I went off to college, I didn’t wear jeans, I wore chinos or cords. Trying to be somewhat formal maybe? I’m not remembering my reasoning.

Some people say that you should never wash a pair of jeans. Never ever

Wore blue denim jeans to school back in the 40’s-50’s but they weren’t riveted and were much softer after several washings. Must have been some other brand. Our usual sources were Sears-Roebuck and J. C. Penney, both long missing from the roster. Too bad.

    What? Just let them stink?

I have never heard this before. Why would you not wash your pants? I have never noticed any negative effect from washing them.

Then why do they make pre-washed or stone washed jeans… most denim materials develop a personality after several washes. Don’t get me going on factory-made holes in jeans…

Jeans were only washed once a week, on Saturday. The reason is that even though we wore jeans a lot, we were only able to wear them for a couple of hours after school. Wore slacks all week at school. Different day and age, remember?

Some people believe that washing clothes ‘wears them out’, I remember my mother talking about someone patching a pear of overalls that still had the price tag on them. They had been “worn out” without ever having been washed and that took several years.

I don’t wear jeans as often in middle age myself. I just wash them whenever they’re in with the rest of dirty clothes, though I may wear a pair more than once between washes if they’re not too ‘ripe’. I find them nice and comfortable that way.

I started wearing jeans in elementary school, back when we chipped our spelling tests on stone, and have been wearing them ever since—except during the summer when I switch to shorts. Chinos? Whazza chino?

I wonder how many 9 year olds nowadays sit around watching TV, streaming, and playing computer and/or video games. Neighbor has 2 kids, I almost never see them.
