I’ve been to Mackinac Island. The views and the fudge are first rate, but walking all the way around, every day until Labor Day….

It looks like Mackinack, and you might want to say Mackinack, but it’s pronounced Mackinaw.

I’d bet a that kid does 8.2 mi every day just being a kid!

Used to be able to walk 15 km. (9.3 mile) without a problem. Starting to build up again with 5 km per day (3.1 mile). (Also walked distances of 40-50 km in a day (2013-2017) but don’t know if I can build up to that again.

Why is (expensive) fudge the go-to food in all tourist places?

My mind went to fudge first too.

I’ve done 10 or so any number of times, but daily would be a real grind. And you need three hours to kill.

Yeah. I am there. Frazz is my favorite comic. But will read Frazz and Calvin and Hobbles until the candle burns out.

I’ve hiked completely around Mackinac Island. Very nice views. And Mackinac Island is one of my favorite places. Oh I feel good there!

For a short legged child that’s probably about two hours and a half, that’s a part time job on top of school.

Every 10 yards would be another store selling it. Never running out of inspiration to complete the walk. I’ve been there a couple of times. I grew up in Michigan in the lower SW of the ‘mitten’.

I think “Mackinac” came from the French in the upper peninsula and Mackinaw from the British in the lower peninsula. What creeps some people out is the roadbed made of see-through grating rather than solid concrete. This is to prevent the bridge from shaking itself to pieces like “Galloping Gertie” in the Tacoma Narrows.

One of my all-time favorite movies is the absolutely heart-rending science-fiction film Somewhere in Time (1980), starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour as star-crossed lovers in the idyllic world of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in 1912. Reeve’s character is a time traveler from 1972 who traveled into the past specifically to find the beautiful woman in the portrait that, in his time, was hanging in the hotel lobby.

Christopher Reeve was determined to avoid the problem that his almost-namesake George Reeves had, in that the latter was so typecast as Superman he could never get any work in any other role. The modern Reeve insisted that every other movie he made had to be a non-Superman part, just to show that he wasn’t simply a handsome hunk but could really act. And he really could. Watch this movie to see for yourself. And if you don’t come away at the end with tears in your eyes, well, probably not much hope for you.

It was definitely for the views

M-185, the only highway in the nation that has never had an automobile accident.
