Ah yes, the ominous tick, tick, ticking of the coaster car being hoist up the incline of which you will momentarily be hurtling down the other side of…
I literally have nightmares every so often about driving a car – an ordinary, street-legal auto – and discovering I’ve come to a down-slope as steep as that one; possibly even steeper, though not by much.
I don’t think this will work out for Adam the way Clayton hopes.
I recently took four teenagers to Universal. Two had never been on a roller coaster and one had previous bad experiences due to motion sickness plus fear of heights. They were all pretty fearful. I had them all try a family coaster (Flight of the Hippogriff) before trying any other coasters. Most of them rode it and said mild to moderate roller coasters were fine. One it didn’t work for – but she rode a different coaster later and found out she was fine as long as it was a harness instead of a lap bar. Only one went on to try the big coasters, though, and none of them went on anything with a loop.
My problem is a hour wait for a 2 minute ride. Going to a place like Disney where you have to mortgage your house for family tickets is for the fun and experience. Waiting in line for hours is not my idea of fun experiences, especially at those prices.
I remember riding Wildthing at Valleyfair outside of Minneapolis. One time we waited to ride in the very first car, and it was such a strange experience, cuz the “train” was so long, we were way over the top of the first hill and still not taking off…felt like we were just hanging there…waiting…waiting…and waiting. Then we took off like a rocket. I love roller coasters and loved to scream bloody murder just for the fun of it, but going 70+ miles an hour, when I opened my mouth, nothing came out! It was one of the strangest experiences! Good times…good times…

It’s bad luck to close your eyes on a roller coaster. You’ll get sea sick. …at least I do.

I don’t particularly like roller coasters, but I can tolerate them occasionally. But things that spin around? Nope, nope nope.

Everyone knows roller coasters are safer than flying jet fighters, right?

I don’t see this changing Adam’s mind about coasters. He’s doing it for the boy, which makes him a good guy.

I’m too scared to go on – husband suffers from motion sickness so can’t go on. Works okay for us.
