It used to be “cuff” them for pants, “hem” them for dresses. Somewhere the distinction has become lost. Even my wife refers to cuffing pants as “hemming” them.
I say shortening them!! I have to do it for all the pants my husband gets! It seems the wider he gets, the more I have to shorten them… I don’t know why clothes makers think that bigger means longer… Most people get fatter, but not taller, and women clothes seem to think that just because you are larger around the waist, your legs and arms are longer!
